If you have general questions about the CDCP and how it works, you do not need to provide identification (ID).

However, if you have specific questions about your file, you need to show ID and answer verification questions.

Do you qualify for the CDCP?

To qualify for the CDCP, you must meet all the eligibility criteria. If you have a spouse or common-law partner, you both need to meet the eligibility criteria to be able to qualify for the CDCP. Eligibility for children under 18 will be determined by the parents’ or guardians’ eligibility.

Eligibility criteria

To qualify for the CDCP, you must:

  • not have access to dental insurance
  • have an adjusted family net income of less than $90,000
  • be a Canadian resident for tax purposes
  • have filed your tax return in the previous year

When can I get my benefits?

  1. Once you’ve applied through Health Canada and they confirm that you qualify, your information will be shared with Sun Life, who will enroll you in the CDCP.
  2. Sun Life will then send you your coverage start date and member card.
  3. The start date to access care under the CDCP depends on the date you were enrolled. You should contact the government with any specific questions regarding your eligibility under the CDCP.
