GENERAL PRACTITIONER:
An unrestricted registration class - a registrant in the General practitioner class is eligible to provide services to the public in the scope of practice for dentistry where he or she has the required knowledge skill and judgement of a reasonable and prudent General Practitioner.
Additional Restrictions
Roster:
Conscious Inhalation Sedation
Inhalation Sedation, mild to moderate conscious: in dentistry, nitrous oxide gas - sometimes referred to as laughing gas - is breathed in through a nosepiece. The concentration of the gas determines the level of relaxation or anxiety relief achieved. The machines that administer the gas are designed to limit the concentration to allow you to relax but remain responsive. After the administration of the gas is stopped, recovery is quick.
For more information on provider and facility requirements, please see Section III of The Pharmacological Behaviour Management Bylaw available at:
https://www.manitobadentist.ca/PDF/feb2014/Bylaw%20for%20Pharmacological%20Behaviour%20Management.pdf
Parenteral Conscious Sedation
Parenteral Sedation, mild to moderate conscious: sedative drugs are administered by injection or infusion usually intravenously (into a vein). This amount of the sedative drug used determines the level of relaxation or consciousness achieved. Parenteral administration can produce the full spectrum of sedation - from mild relaxation to unconsciousness. Intravenous infusion allows for significant control of the level of sedation.
Members and facilities designated for moderate conscious sedation are required to limit the dosage to allow you to remain responsive during the procedure. Even at this level, you may not remember some of the dental procedures. The after effects are few and recovery is reasonably quick, but a person should be monitored and cannot operate a vehicle for several hours after the procedure until they have recovered.
For more information on provider and facility requirements, please see Section IV of The Pharmacological Behaviour Management Bylaw available at:
https://www.manitobadentist.ca/PDF/feb2014/Bylaw%20for%20Pharmacological%20Behaviour%20Management.pdf
Multiple Modality Sedation
Multiple Modality Sedation, mild to moderate conscious: is when two or more different types of sedation agents are used - it may be a pill taken orally combined with nitrous oxide gas or an intravenously administered drug. The combining of methods is intended to increase the potential depth of sedation or allow for more control of the level of sedation.
Members and facilities are specifically designated as to whether they can use combinations of methods for sedation purposes. They are required to limit the dosage to allow you to remain responsive during the procedure. Even at this level, you may not remember some of the dental procedures. A person should be monitored and cannot operate a vehicle after the procedure until they have recovered.
