Registration & Licensing

Complete the following steps to become registered and licensed as a dental assistant with the Manitoba Dental Association (MDA):

STEP 1: NDAEB Exam

Complete the National Dental Assisting Examining Board (NDAEB) written exam. The written exam consists of 200 multiple choice questions.

  • Application form
  • Locations and dates
  • Fees
  • Candidate Handbook

STEP 2: Application

Please contact the Manitoba Dental Association for registration and licensing forms.

STEP 3: Required Documents

Submit the following documents:

  • If you have changed your name, please provide a certified copy of a legal document certifying name change (for example, marriage certificate, name change decree, etc.).
  • A copy of your graduation certificate from the your course of study in dental assisting
  • A copy of your National Dental Assistant Examining Board (NDAEB) Written Exam certificate (if graduated after December 31, 2006)
  • A copy of your Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Program certificate
  • If you are currently licensed in another jurisdiction or have ever been licensed in another jurisdiction, you must provide an original Letter of Good Standing from the licensing authority. The Letter of Good Standing must include:
    • Name and address of the regulatory body
    • Your membership category such Practising or Non-Practising
    • Your status such as active or inactive
    • The expiry date of your current licence
    • Information on any disciplinary action taken against you

STEP 4: Fees

a) Pay the required fees using separate cheques:

Cheque 1: Registration Fee
One-time registration fee - $25  

Cheque 2: Licensing Fee 
Annual licence fee - $220
New graduates in their year of graduation  - $110

b) Make both cheques payable to Manitoba Dental Association

STEP 5: Delivery

Mail or hand-deliver your application form, required documents, and cheques to:

STEP 6: MDA Response

If your application is approved, MDA will mail you:

  • A receipt for your application fee
  • A receipt for your annual licence fee
  • Your licence certificate

If your application is not approved, MDA:  

  • Will mail you information about what you need to do to become registered and licensed
  • Will NOT cash your cheques for your registration fee and application fee
