Graduate of Domestic Accredited Dental Assisting Program

Education

Dental assistants must complete the following to be eligible for registration and licensing with MDA:

1. Accredited Dental Assisting Program

Dental assistants receive their formal education through academic programs at technical and community colleges. Graduates of these programs usually receive certificates.

Although the majority of academic dental assisting programs take 9-11 months to complete, some schools offer accelerated training, part-time education programs or training via distance education.

Accreditation > Canada
The Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada (CDAC) is responsible for deciding whether or not Canadian dental assisting programs meet the standards for accreditation. CDAC has accredited approximately 27 dental assisting programs in Canada.

2. National Dental Assistants Examining Board (NDAEB) Written Exam

You must complete the NDAEB Written Exam to be eligible for registration and licensing with MDA.

3. Certification in a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Program

You must have valid certification in CPR from one of these programs approved by Manitoba Health:
